The Lattices of Kongo Gumi - 16-element Braiding on a Foam Dis

Arizona Desert Weavers and Spinners Guild, Phoenix AZ

Tuesday, November 12, 2019
9:30 am to 4:30 pm

This is a workshop for beginning braiders who want to try out Kumihimo. We will be
making key chains from 1 mm satin cord, sometimes called mouse or bugtail.
A lattice is a grid framework creating diamond- or square-like openings. In
16-element Kongō Gumi braiding, the lattice is created by the eight cords in
the North-South and East-West quadrants. How the remaining eight cords are
laid out the in the NE-SE and NW-SW quadrants determines the shape of the
lattice. Using a foam braiding disk and satin cord, practice making a
variety of lattice structures, from regular (symmetric) to irregular
(asymmetric) shapes.
