The Lattice Braids of Kongō Gumi

Convergence 2020 Knoxville, Knoxville Convention Center, Tennessee

Saturday, July 16, 2022, 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

A lattice is a grid framework creating diamond- or square-like openings. In 16-element Kongō Gumi braiding, the lattice is created by the eight cords in the North-South and East-West quadrants. How the remaining eight cords are laid out the in the NE-SE and NW-SW quadrants determines the shape of the lattice. Using a foam braiding disk and satin cord, practice making a variety of lattice structures, from regular (symmetric) to irregular (asymmetric) shapes.
