Using pre-packaged synthetic silk, braid a sampler of 4- and 8-element braids. The sampler with start with a 4-element round braid, Yotsu Gumi, which will be formed into a loop at the beginning. Continue with 8-element braid structures including round, square, and flat. Learn how the placement of color on the Marudai changes the design within the same braid structure. Braids include Yotsu Gumi, Maru Genji, Edo Yatsu Gumi (with its variations of repeating steps two and three times), and Hira Kara Gumi. Resources for the braid patterns include a coil-bound handout and two books authored by Neilson - The Twenty-Four Interlacements of Edo Yatsu Gumi and The Thirty-Seven Interlacements of Hira Kara Gumi.
