Block designs consist of black and white squares on grid paper, where black is considered the pattern block and white the background block. Through a slide presentation, find out how one weaver used the binary number system and the textures of 4-shaft huck lace to develop the definitive number of two-block motifs, and how these simple motifs become the building blocks of more elaborate patterns.

During the 3-hour Design Session, weavers will construct complex patterns using the component 2-block motifs. After creating their own patterns, weavers will receive two Design Pages, two Transparent Overlays, and a transparent Grid from Rosalie’s book An Exaltation of Blocks to try out more patterns. With these pages, the number of possible patterns is well over 65,000 – 16 to the 4th power.
