It's in the Warp: Color and Design in Rep (Workshop)

Spokane Handweavers’ Guild

The Hook and Needle Nook, 1508 North Monroe Street, Spokane, WA
Wednesday, March 27 to Friday March 29, 2019
9:30 to 4:30 pm

Two different-colored warps (a pattern and a background colorway) combine with thick and thin weft to form elements for exploring block design in warp-faced rep. Before the workshop, participants will receive drafts for 4- and 8-shaft looms, depending on their own. Participants will select a draft and pre-thread their looms; at the workshop they’ll learn how blocks of rep can be combined to expand design possibilities. Discussion will focus on profile drafting, the use of color, the movement of blocks in independent and linked fashion, skeleton tie-up, and different threading systems. Weavers will work exclusively on their own looms to understand the weave structure of rep, sampling with different weight wefts to create textiles suitable for the table, wall, and floor.
