A Twill a Day Keeps the Troubles Away

The Third Printing of An Exaltation of Blocks has arrived! And I’ve discovered a new way to use the Section Two Toolkit containing 32 duplex-printed Design Pages featuring 1,024 4-block Motifs, plus the Transparent Overlays which turn the motifs into 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-block motifs. I’ve always regarded the black and white motifs as Profile Block Designs. But I realized, after discovering the Modelbuch of Tobias Arnold (written in 1825) that the 8-block designs can also be used for weaving Twills. If the floats are too long, they can be altered. I decided I wanted to present a Twill A Day in this Blog to inspire weavers to try new patterns not available in magazines or books.

Sixteen 8-block motifs comprised of Design Page 4.4 and four Transparent Overlays: 5.1, 6.2, 7.5, 8.13. Section Two Toolkit of An Exaltation of Blocks

Every motif on a Design Page and a Transparency has an identifying number to help keep track of how a pattern was formed. In addition, each Design Page and Transparency has its own identifier. The upper right corner indicates Design Page 4.4. Numbers at the bottom refer to Transparencies 5.1, 6.2, 7.5 and 8.13.
